Ok so I was looking up designers the other day for class and I came across Elsa Sciaparelli (pronounced Skap-a-rellie).
Here she is:
Gorgeous!!
Anywho here are some facts that make her one of the top all time designers to know about:
- She was very influential in the 40's.
- Her fashion house closed in 1954.
-Influenced by Surrealists like Salvador Dali.
-She was the first one to start using colored zippers to match the clothing.
-Invented the 'Wedge'
-Very influential on her runway shows with the type of
music and art.
-Started using elongated, shapeless women for models like we do now.
-Collaborated with Salvador Dali to make the lamb-cutlet hat, brain hat, the shoe hat, the chest of drawers suit, Lobster dress, tears dress, and skeleton dress.
-Her 1940 collection featured "trench" brown and Camo print taffetas.
Elsa is definitely someone you need to remember. I mean come on, Camo prints during the war AND let alone in 1940!!! I mean who else would've done that!!!!
Here's a photo of the shoe hat:
Ok just so you get this: IT WAS THE 40'S WHEN SHE DID THIS!!!!!!
Thank you Elsa for the furthering fashion!
